Another cracking morning in Brisbane today, perfect for a roll out through Brookfield and back via Gap Creek.

Getting reacquainted with the Ipswich 100

Last year’s Ipswich 100 was the first time that we setup a manned presence at a cycling event and began telling the Cobra9 story so we had to return this year to the start of it all to participate in this great event again.

The first thing to say about this event is that the title is a little misleading. Many a strong man has crumbled when they get through 160km, only to find that the 100 mile course is closer to 170km. A small selection formed after the Warrell View climb that comes around the 40km mark. Here are some snaps of the group that I’ve grabbed from the full set of pics of the day.

You can always rely on some wind across the exposed countryside as you battle the dead country roads and this year was no exception. The run home from Boonah over the “dirty dozen” tests how much petrol you have left in the tank and invariably turns into a personal battle as the series of 10% ‘undulations’ stretches on in a straight line for as far as you can see.

All in all, a great day out in fantastics riding conditions.

Byron to Currumbin, Rainbow ride

The picturesque “Rainbow Ride” held recently between the Byron Bay lighthouse and Currumbin Eco-village again featured some of the Cobra9 crew, returning to battle the tough 160km course that finishes with the testing Mt Tomewin climb.

This year Hadleigh Milligan, riding for the Tineli team took out the honours in his Cobra9s after attacking at the 20km mark and staying away solo for 140km! Congratulations to him and his team for that monstrous effort.

There are some bonus shots of the 2009 Rainbow ride towards the bottom.

USM Noosa Century complete for another year

Team Cobra9 managed a solid showing in the new look Noosa Century course, with 2 riders finishing in the lead bunch of about 20. With a ride time of 4hrs 13 mins and an average speed of a little over 37kph, a good workout was had by all.

The new section west of Noosa, through the hills of Pomona, Cooroy and Kenilworth added another dimension to the ride. “Restaurant Hill”, was a noticeable omission on the run home via Bli Bli and out to Marcoola on the coast. The bunch that formed in the first 80 hilly kilometres hung together through the final run up the coast and crossed the line relatively intact.

A few of us were musing after the race that a finish on top of the Noosa hill at the round-about at the Reef Hotel would add the icing to an otherwise perfect course….

C9 at the Cootha Challenge

A couple of the Cobra9 crew gave the mountain a scare at this year’s Cootha challenge.

6 kilometres through the new Clem7 tunnel, then 2.2km of pain at 10% up the back of Mt Cootha.

Adam – 8:06 (23rd overall)
Scott – 12:33

Cobra9 will be looking to make an impact in the teams competition next year.

Carbon Orthotics at the Tour Down Under

Greipel has problems with his Carbon Orthotics during the Tour Down Under. (Maybe he should be in Cobra9′s……)

“Just before the start, I noticed that my carbon shoe insole was broken. So I put in some new ones, that I never rode with. During the very first kilometres they hurt like hell, so I dropped back to the car and asked if there were any insoles from sneakers around. Thank God our team manager Bob Stapleton wore sneakers. He gave me his insoles right away and I was able to continue without pain.”
